This trip report covers Kelowna, BC, Canada for July 4, 2013
I started out at the Rotary Marsh bird sanctuary. It has been a while since I was there last and when I arrived I found the Osprey taking up nest on the nesting platform. I waited for some time for the male to return with a fish. He then proceeded to perch on the branches off of the nesting platform. Within a short time he started to take short naps with the fish still in his talons. I was surprised when the resident Tree Sparrows started to dive bomb him. I also spotted some Eastern Kingbirds and a Belted Kingfisher made a short appearance. On Okanagan Lake at the point I spotted two Western Grebes.
Next I headed to the Glenmore Landfill to see what was happening there this year. In the ponds were Redhead Duck, Ruddy Duck, American Coots, Mallards and American Avocet. Some Killdeer were also about. In the marshes were Yellow-headed blackbirds and a few Red-winged Blackbirds. Overhead I saw two juvenile Bald Eagles and one mature Bald Eagle.
